WASHINGTON - USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) reminds Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) participants with contracts expiring on Sept. 30, 2007, that they have until Friday, April 14, 2006, to apply for re-enrollment and extension.

In August 2004, President Bush announced his commitment to re-enroll or extend certain contracts scheduled to expire between 2007 and 2010, and to fully use the CRP’s 39.2 million acre enrollment authority. CCC received more than 5,000 comments from the public in response to a Federal Register notice and conducted a public meeting in June 2005.

In September 2005, Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns announced that CCC would begin to implement the President’s proposed actions in early 2006.Beginning in February 2006, Farm Service Agency (FSA) county offices sent letters to CRP participants with contracts expiring Sept. 30, 2007. FSA notified those contract holders of their contract status and the April 14, 2006 deadline to accept the opportunity to extend or re-enroll for the contract length offered. The letters asked contract holders to confirm their interest in a re-enrolled or extended contract subject to a compliance check.

Road work to resume on I-90 from Presho to Reliance

Posted by Nicole

WINNER - Two separate I-90 road construction projects are about to get underway between Presho and Reliance.
The first project is a continuation of the work performed in 2006 from Presho to Kennebec. The work on this project will involve rerouting traffic in both directions to the east bound lanes while work is performed on the west bound side. Work to take place this year involves rubblizing, underdrain placement and resurfacing with asphalt in the west bound lanes. This work is expected to be fully completed and back open to the public by mid to late July. Border States Paving, Inc. from Fargo, North Dakota is the Prime Contractor for this project.

The second project will involve work on every bridge between Kennebec and Exit 251 east of Reliance. The most major portion of this project involves complete reconstruction of the two bridges at Reliance, Exit 248, which is considered Reliance’s main exit. Exit 248 will be closed for the majority of the summer construction season while these two structures are rebuilt. Traffic will be routed around the two bridges by utilizing the on and off ramps. Anyone wishing to exit Interstate 90 at Exit 248 will be detoured to Exit 251 for the duration of this work. The underpass road, which goes north and south, below Exit 248 will also be closed for the duration of this major reconstruction work.

Other structures to be worked on as part of the second project include placing new deck overlays half width at a time at the bridges at mile post 239, 244 and 251. Deck overlay work will also take place on the structures at Lyman, Exit 241. At the Exit 241 site, traffic will be routed around the work by utilizing the on and off ramps for approximately six to eight weeks. North/South movement of traffic under the structures at Exit 241 will be allowed as no work will take place underneath those structures.

Work on the structures between Kennebec and Reliance will be ongoing this entire construction season. Sioux Falls Construction out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is the Prime Contractor for this project.

A separate contract will take place in 2007 to rubblize the inplace concrete and pave back new asphalt in both the east and westbound lanes from Kennebec to Reliance.
