Steve Hayes, president of Dakota Prairie Bank, saw his father Keith Hayes dream through to fulfillment this past week with the completion of an expansion project at the Presho branch.

Expanding our facility at Presho was an aspiration of my fathers for the last 5 years of his life. He worked on the plans, collected ideas and knew what he wanted to accomplish, said Steve. Unfortunately failing health prevented the elder Hayes from actually starting the project as he passed away in the spring of 2005. Seeing our bank expand here in Presho and marking the 100th anniversary of the Dakota Prairie Bank and the town of Draper were goals my father wanted to accomplish, Steve added.

Two of those goals were reached and celebrated last Friday night, January 20th when Dakota Prairie Bank held an open house and dedication of the 24 feet by 80 feet addition to the bank. Ground was broke on the project in July of 2005. The main contractor was Midwest Construction of Pierre. Local suppliers and subcontractors included; Dakota Builders Supply, Russ Comp Construction, PowerCom, Patrick Construction and Lonnie Ellwanger of Draper.

The addition offers an expanded board room, work room, storage, rest room, and a large office for the bank president. With the completion of the project, Erica Sundall, assistant vice-president, will now be working at the Presho branch. She will move into the office space previously used by the bank president.

The turn out was phenomenal, stated Steve. We had 230 register at the guest book but many of those were couples and or families. We estimate that more than 300 attended. We appreciate our customers throughout the year but especially want to thank them for being so understanding during our construction phase these past few months, added Steve. Commemorative banks and insulated cups were given away by the bank.

This open house kicks off our 100th Anniversary celebration which will conclude on June 9th at the Draper Centennial Celebration with a free barbecue under a big tent to be erected on Main Street, said Steve. According to Steve other anniversary events are planned over the next few months either at Presho or Draper.

Marge Hayes and other family members including Jody (Hayes) Wingert, Mary (Hayes) Dott, and bank staff members from Draper and Presho along with board members were on hand for the open house and dedication.

A framed collage of photographs of the old bank buildings in Draper and the new buildings in Draper and Presho along with a photograph of Keith grace the new boardroom and Steves office as a tribute to the patriarch of the Hayes family.
