The public presentation will be sponsored by the Kennebec Women’s Club, Kennebec Town & Country Club, and the Eastern Star. According to Betty Jean Mertens of the Kennebec Women’s Club Darcey Jensen of Sioux Falls, a drug prevention and treatment counselor representing the Meth Awareness and Prevention Project-South Dakota, will present the program. MAPP-SD, focuses on raising awareness, and providing resources to provide pertinent information regarding the use, manufacture, identification of Meth.

Everyone is invited to attend. Coffee and cookies will be served following the presentation.Methamphetamine is a powerful central nervous system stimulant with a high potential for abuse and dependence. The drug has been availabe for years.

As the use of Meth grew, so did the problem of abuse. It became a cure-all for people wanting to stay awake, for weight control, for increasing athletic performance and to treat mild depression.

Today’s Meth is far more potent than Meth sold years ago, and the infiltration of Meth in society continues. It’s cheap and easy to make, which when combined with the long lasting high makes Meth a popular substitute for cocaine. A new generation of users has made Meth their drug of choice, leading to an epidemic of Meth and Meth labs across the country.
Young children who live in or visit a Meth labs face a wide range of health and safety risks, including exposure to toxic chemicals, drugs, contaminated food, fires, and explosions. They are also at high risk for abuse and negligence as well as exposure to fire arms and violence.
Did you Know? *During one South Dakota drug bust, law enforcement seized 19 pounds of Meth-enough to get 34,504 kids high.
