Private family services, at her request, were held for Hilda V. Ness, who died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Hilda Viola Behrns was born on March 24, 1913, to Frank and Frances Behrns, at Bijou Hills. She attended school at the Bijou Hills country school.
On January 5, 1930, she married B.G. "Tophy" Ness, at Bijou Hills. In 1949 they moved to the Rapid City area. To this union six children were born: Bernard Ness, Caputa; Milton "Mitt" Ness, Sturgis; Marvin Ness, Rapid City; Judith Knuppe, New Underwood; Bonnie Hackens, New Underwood; Rodney Roy Ness, Rapid City.
Survivors include her children, a nephew Lloyd Olson, Kadoka; 20 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, "Tophy" in 1995; two sisters: Delma and Lula, and two grandchildren.
Hilda was laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City, next to her husband. A memorial has been established to the Black Hills Children’s Home.
Kirk Funeral Home, Rapid City, were in charge of arrangements.
