Selma F. Bunker, 82
Funeral services for Selma F. Bunker, 82, of Chamberlain, were held Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Reliance Methodist Church in Reliance, SD with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance.
Selma Fern Bartholow was born January 14, 1927 on the family farm near Reliance, SD to Robert L. and Mary Jane (Howard) Bartholow. She attended Pleasant View Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Reliance High School in 1944.
She then attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD throughout the summer and began her teaching career that fall. She taught in several Lyman County rural schools for six years and later attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD. She then taught first grade in the Highmore Public School. She lived in Seattle, WA for one year, working as a telephone operator.
On June 12, 1955, Selma was united in marriage to Daryl Bunker at the Methodist Church at Reliance. Daryl passed away on March 11, 1985 and she remained on the family farm until 1986 when she moved into Chamberlain.
She worked for the Adjustment Training Center for over 15 years and retired in 2005. She moved into the Regency Retirement Assisted Living in June 2006. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pukwana.
Selma passed away on September 15, 2009 at Sanford Mid Dakota Medical Center in Chamberlain at the age of 82 years.
Gratefully sharing in her life are her sons Ted Bunker and wife Karon of Union Bridge, Maryland, Frank Bunker and wife Wanda of Chamberlain and Jim Bunker and wife Rita of Reliance, SD; five grandchildren Ben Bunker and wife Laurel, Toni Price and husband John, and Matt, Daryl, and Alex Bunker; a great grandchild Marissa Bunker; and a sister Betty Isburg and husband Lee of Chamberlain. Preceding her in death were her husband Daryl; her twin Howard; two brothers Robert F. and Donald Bartholow; and two sisters Mary Jane Hieb and Evelyn Bingen-Savory.
Ruby Weverstad Tiedje, 100
Funeral services for Ruby Weverstad Tiedje, 100, were held Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell with Pastor Donna McLaird officiating and burial at Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell.
Ruby Weverstad Tiedje was born November 3, 1908 pm on the family homestead at Vivian, SD to Arthur and Minnie (Schutte) Weverstad. She attended country school and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1928. She received her nursing degree from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She did private duty nursing for many years and spent one year at the Fort Lauderdale Hospital in Florida.
On May 12, 1940 she married Elmer Tiedje. They farmed and raised registered Herford cattle near Mitchell for 25 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1928 and was involved in the various organizations of the church.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Pawlak of Dilworth, MN; two granddaughters, Leigh Ann Pawlak, Sioux Falls; Pamela Broome and husband, Randy, Aiken, SC; one grandson, Michael Carpentier and wife, Brenda, Mitchell; five great grandchildren, Craig, Cory, Taylor, Ann, Kadie Jo Carpentier and Bradley Broome and one great-great grandchild, Lilliana Ruby Carpentier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer in 1988, three sisters and three brothers.
