Mid Dakota Monster starts Friday

The Lyman Invitational Wrestling Tournament, scheduled for Friday January 9 and Saturday, January 10 will be a family affair for Lyman's first year wrestling coach Chad Johnson.
The 22-team tournament, billed as the Mid Dakota Monster, is Johnson's first experience organizing a high school tournament. But, he and his family have been involved in the Lyman Tournament for years.
Currently, Johnson's younger brother Beau, a senior, wrestles for Lyman. Johnson wrestled for the Lyman Raiders from 1992 to 1998. Older brother Ross started a few years earlier. Beau started helping at the tournament as a mat boy while his older brothers wrestled. As members of the Lyman Wrestling Club, parents Doug and Gloria, who have both served as officers, have been involved in many aspects of the tournament over the years, especially the concession stand. This year coach Johnson's wife Darcy will also be helping out.
As head coach Johnson is responsible for lining up volunteer workers for the 2-day tournament, handling the registrations and notifications, and seating meetings. "It takes a lot of help to put on a tournament this size," stated Johnson. Lyman's annual tournament is considered one of the biggest held in central South Dakota. Over 200 wrestlers will complete over the 2-day event.
According to coach Johnson, the Raiders wrestling team has suffered some setbacks the last couple of weeks between injuries and wrestler's eligibility. "Lyman's Tournament will play host to 2 days of great wrestling action. Our boys will wrestle hard, come out and support the Raiders," added Johnson.
The Lyman AAU Youth Wrestling Tournament normally held the Sunday after the high school tournament has been postponed. Watch for future date.
