PIERRE, S.D. – A South Dakota Department of Transportation contractor will begin work on Tuesday, April 17, installing an edge drain in the outside shoulder of the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 83, north of Vivian.
Work will begin about one-half mile north of Interstate 90 and move north for about eight miles on Highway 83.
Once the edge-drain work moves north, milling operations for the asphalt resurfacing portion of the project will begin at the south end.
Beginning the week of April 23, traffic on Highway 83 will be maintained through the project by moving vehicles to one lane in each direction.
Motorists are reminded to watch for lane closures, slowing traffic, construction equipment and workers.
Fines are double in work-zone areas.
The overall completion date for the project is Oct. 15, 2012.
Duininck Inc. of Prinsburg, Minnesota, is the contractor.
