A new business has opened in Presho that will give residents of the area the convenience of having their taxes prepared locally by a certified public accountant.
Dennis Stanley, CPA recently moved into newly constructed office space within the Presho Area Chamber’s Community building located at 121 N. Main. Stanley expects to keep regular business hours with the start of the 2004 tax season which runs from January until the middle of April.
“I appreciate the support my business has received from the Presho Area Chamber,” stated Stanley. According to Stanley, the chamber was extremely supportive and instrumental in helping him secure office space within the downtown business district in time to prepare for the upcoming tax season.
Stanley has spent the last five years farming with his father Dick in the family operation and working at the accounting firm of Stulken Petersen, LLP of Pierre during tax season. Stanley enjoys both occupations and feels the timing of the different seasons works well for him.
While Stanley’s office will be open only during tax season to start with, he foresees the opportunity that the business could expand in the future. Accounting procedures such as independent audits and monthly bookkeeping services could be added if a demand exists in the area.
“Opening a practice in my hometown while continuing my involvement in farming is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for,” added Stanley.
Stanley, a 1987 Lyman graduate received his accounting degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1992. He worked for the accounting firm of Stulken Petersen, LLP of Pierre for 3 years following graduation. His first position there afforded him a varied experience in accounting, from tax preparation to audits and more. Stanley moved to Montevideo, MN and worked 2 years for the firm of Lee and Berner, where he specialized in tax preparation, especially farm related. Stanley then returned to live in Presho in 1998.
