Raiders to host Eagles Friday at home
By Lucy Halverson
Lyman County Herald

The Lyman Raiders football team will host the Wall Eagles at home Friday, Sept. 5 in their first scrimmage of the 2008 season.  Kick off is at 6:30 pm at the Lyman Football field complex.

The Raiders return just three seniors to the 2008 squad.  According to Coach Mike Kieffer, the Raiders’ strength lies in the junior class.  “There’s 14 returning juniors, the majority with game experience,” said Coach Kieffer.

The Raiders graduated five good players from the 2007 team.  “Losing an all-state quarterback like Tyler Ollerich  hurts,  it’s (replacing quarterback) probably our biggest obstacle of the season, added Coach Kieffer.  The Raiders are looking towards sophomore Jared Anderson or junior Logan Reuman to step into that lead position.

The 2008 squad boosts 31 team members.  Team co-captains are seniors Dusty Abrahamson and Michael Uthe, junior Reed Reuman and Skyler Eriksen.

In addition to third year head coach Kieffer, the Raiders are guided by returning assistant coaches Marty Eriksen and Jason Maier.

The Raiders finished last year with a record of 8-2 losing the second round play off game to Gregory 8-32.

Coach Kieffer looks for another good season ahead.  “We expect to play some other good teams starting with Wall on Friday.  We’d like to be a throwing team, but we may lean more towards a running game than we have in the past,” stated Coach when asked what fans can expect from the Raiders this year.  “We have an athletic, talented bunch of kids with experience; I look for a good year!”
