Dwight Wilson Lamb was born on November 21, 1947 to Frank and Rosa (Ehlers) Lamb at home during a blizzard on the family farm northwest of Presho. He grew up with his two older sisters, Judy and Renee. (Sister Judy always told Dwight he was found in a snowbank.) Because the roads were so heavily covered with snow, Curt England had to use his Dodge power wagon to bring Dr. Newman out to deliver the baby. After a four-year hard-fought battle from liver cancer, Dwight peacefully went to his heavenly home on October 23, 2023.

Dwight was baptized and confirmed into the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He attended Brule country school, Presho High School for two years and graduated from Gann Valley High School in 1966.

He joined the National Guard in 1967 and was honorably discharged in in 1974. He was also a member of the rural Presho Fire Department.

Dwight operated the family farm which he eventually purchased from his parents. He was a dedicated farmer his entire life. He enjoyed farming as a young boy, helping his dad and the changing farming methods throughout the years, from conventional farming to no-till farming.

Dwight and his dad sold Vigortone AG products and Garst seeds. He also sold TRC (Texas Refinery Products). Dwight was a farmer at heart and loved all aspects of farming, from planting to harvesting.

During the harvest season, besides his own harvest, he enjoyed helping custom harvesters, too, driving his semi. But what he really enjoyed was helping Linda and Waylin farm. After selling his farm in 2007, he moved into Presho and he and Linda made their life together.

From 1987 until 2012, Dwight, Linda and Waylin ran a commercial pheasant hunting business, Pheasants All Over, LLC. Hunters from all over the country enjoyed coming every year, making everlasting friendships.

Dwight enjoyed visiting and joking with the guys at Hutch’s Café or striking up a conversation with a stranger, getting to know them in a short time. He was kind-hearted and friendly and would do anything for anyone, as he was a “people-person”. He was honest and told it like he saw it. Dwight enjoyed the good things in life; the wide-open spaces of the countryside out here on the South Dakota prairie where he was born and raised and lived his entire life. He was a friend to everyone he met.

One of Dwight’s favorite activities was going to his sister’s house, directly to the freezer and helping himself to the frozen cookies!

He is survived by his best friend and love of his life, Linda (Perry) Ambur and her sons, Waylin Ambur and Ross Ambur and family, his sister Renee Miller, and nieces Tami, (Jeff) Martinez and Pennie (Lance) Malenke, brotherin- law Bob Dickman and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rosa, a sister Judy Dickman and a great niece, Breanna Rosa Martinez.
