Penny Hicks

Penny Hicks passed away on October 7, 2023 at The Village at Skyline Pines in Rapid City.

Memorial visitation will be 5 pm to 7 pm October 20 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am, October 21 at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church in Rapid City.

She was born in Cheyenne, WY to Robert and Geraldine (Brown) Mang.

Penny lived in Long Beach, California until she was 11 when her father passed.

Her Mother, sister Alice and Penny then moved to Presho, SD.

Penny attended Presho High School and graduated in 1959. During high school, she met Ralph Hicks and he became the love of her life. They were married in October 1960 in Presho. They resided in Pierre, Mitchell, Belle Fourche, and Rapid City. In 1984, Ralph and Penny moved to Omaha, NE.

They retired in 1990 and returned to Rapid City. They bought an RV and traveled the country.

Penny enjoyed bowling, playing cards, church activities, and community service with the Telephone Pioneers.

Grateful for sharing her life are husband Ralph, of Rapid City, son Jeff Hicks (DeeDee,) of Rapid City, Granddaughters Jennifer Hicks and Courtney Riott (Grayson) both of CO, son Mark Hicks, Granddaughters Amber and Ashley Hicks and 4 Great Grandchildren all of Omaha, NE.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Duane Mang; sister, Alice Mang James; and stepbrother and wife Bob and Rita Gallant.

A memorial will be established for the Alzheimer’s Association.
