Vanda Lee Roberts, 85

Vanda Lee Roberts, 85, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, peacefully at Dignity Care Homes, in Yuma, AZ. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Vanda Lee Roberts, was born on January 2, 1938, to Clarence M and Francis Slagle in Rapid City, SD.

After graduating from Rapid City High School, Vanda married her best friend Ray Roberts on September 29, 1956. They just celebrated 67 years of marriage. To this union they had five children, Little Ray, Terie, Tammy, Tina and Troy.

Vanda worked at CP Clare and at Rapid City Regional Hospital until her retirement. After Ray and Vanda retired, they started traveling to Yuma AZ to enjoy the warmer winters. Vanda loved to sew and hand quilt. She made sure every family member received a special quilt on their special day, plus she gave many more away.

She was a member of the Sew What Quilters Club of Presho and the Quilting Club at Cactus Gardens in Yuma. She received many awards for her beautiful quilts in the Yuma AZ quilt shows. She also loved to cross-stitch. She made a Christmas stocking for each member of her family. Every time a new grandbaby or spouse joined the family, she would get to work to make sure they would have their own Christmas stocking.

In her younger years she bowled three or four times a week. Her dad teased her and said if you are not careful you are going to deliver a baby on the lanes.

Vanda and Ray loved to play cribbage. They enjoyed playing just the two of them and they played many hours at the Cactus Gardens Rec Hall.

Vanda is survived by her husband Ray Roberts of Yuma AZ, her children and grandchildren - Tammy (Ralph) Langenbau, Casey Griffith, Jeremy Griffith, and Sara Floyd, Tina (Pat Patterson) Freeman, Clinton Freeman and Tara Gregg, Troy (Misty) Roberts, Jenna Roberts, Sydney Roberts and Maxwell Roberts, Son-in-law Kenny Jacob, Jennifer Widdoss, Luke Jacob and Jackie Jacob, 15 great children, 3 great-great grandchildren. Her brother John (Cheryle) Slagle and many nieces, nephews and many great friends.

Preceded in death by her children, Little Ray Roberts and Terie Jacob. Her mom and dad, grandparents and mother-in-law Eva Roberts, son-in-laws Lawrence (Butch) Griffith and Jim Freeman.
