Parkston – Willard “Curly” Schoenfelder, 94, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, August 2 at his home in Parkston.

Funeral mass were held Tuesday, August 8 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Burial was held later that day at 3:00 pm in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Kennebec followed by a gathering at St. Michael’s Parish Hall.

Curly was born October 25, 1928 to Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Kummer) Schoenfelder in Dimock, SD. He grew up on the farm and attended Ss. Peter & Paul Parochial School in Dimock. At the age of 14, he moved with his father to Kennebec, SD where they drove trucks hauling cattle. He entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Josephine Whitney on April 23, 1956. The couple farmed near Kennebec until 1988.

After retiring from farming, Curly worked for Kennebec Telephone for 17 years. He moved to Parkston, SD in 2016. Love was abundant within the family as they enjoyed spending time together. He also enjoyed playing games, going to the casino and socializing with his Heritage Square family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his six daughters Diane (Tim) Dodson of Spearfish, SD, Gloria Vollmer of Pierre, SD, Margie (Dennis) Streitz of Parkston, Barb (Reno) Roth of Parkston, Beth (Scott) Moore of Ipswich, SD, and Melody (Brian) Hohn of Parkston; twelve grandchildren: Amber (Mike) Dodson, Melissa (J) Brazill, RaKel (Josh) Hooser, Tatum (Cory) Hylton, Brittany (Eric) Schoenfelder, Nikki (Jon) Reichert, Lindsey Roth, Valerie (Zack) Nelson, Brandon (Baley) Moore, Tori (Garrett) Peterson, Kyle (Hanna) Hohn, and Tanner (Shannon) Hohn; 21 great grandchildren: Ella, Jaxon, Corbin, Trinity, Jozie, Clover, Aryia, Lexi, Easton, Addi, Cambrie, Vera, Billie, Crockett, Bennett, Kendall, Leslie, Cooper, Hadley, Sage, and Lennyn; and a sisterin- law, Joan Schoenfelder of Dakota Dunes, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josephine; two grandsons Ryan Hohn and Derek Swanson; three sisters, Anita, Ginny and Jeanette; and three brothers, Clem, Dennis, and John.
